Wrapping Up the Fall Semester

As the fall semester comes to an end, it can be challenging to balance studying, socialization, wellness, and getting in the holiday spirit! Miami has loads of resources to help you prepare for your studies, while also having some fun and cheer along the way.
Studying for success:
- If you need help achieving your academic goals, the Rinella Learning Center offers free tutoring to all Miami students in a variety of subjects.
- Many classes offered at Miami host supplemental instruction sessions that are led by students who have already taken the course. These sessions can be very helpful when learning difficult subjects or even for reviewing material for an exam.
- Need a private, quiet space to work? To prepare for finals, using a study room can be very helpful. Miami offers free study room reservations for students at King Library, Armstrong Student Center, and the Art and Architecture Library.
- One of the best ways to ensure you are successful throughout finals is by attending office hours. Professors hold office hours weekly to assist students with homework, difficult topics, exam preparation, and more!
Taking a break:
- If you need to destress during your studies — or you simply want to enjoy some cuddly pups — you can attend Miami’s dog therapy sessions.
- Fueling your body is known to increase attentiveness and concentration. Miami holds a tradition called Late Night Study Break every year during finals week, where a wide variety of snacks from everyone’s favorite Uptown restaurants are offered free for students in the library!
- Exercising is a great way to stay focused. Be sure to check out one of Miami’s recreation centers or take a walk on one of our trails during finals week.
Enjoying some fun:
- After all that hard work, make sure you have some fun, too! Miami Activities and Programming (MAP) will be hosting a DIY snow globe event on Thursday, Dec. 5. This is a great way to meet other students, enjoy some holiday cheer, and get crafty!
- Check out Oxford’s Holiday Festival on Saturday, Dec. 7. There will be a wide variety of Christmas-themed events to celebrate the semester’s close with the Oxford community.
- Participate in the Ugly Sweater Moonlight Ice Skate on Saturday, Dec. 7, to get in the holiday spirit and have some fun.
Finals can be an overwhelming time, but it is important to put forth your best effort and stay balanced. Stay true to yourself, prioritize your tasks, and sprinkle in some personal time along the way.
Good luck, everyone!
