Hometown Kid, Big Impact: Trey Perry at Miami

Many people grow up dreaming of their future, moving to Hollywood to be an actor or Nashville to be a singer, but you don’t have to move away from home to achieve your dreams. Freshman basketball player Trey Perry is only a short 45-minute drive from home and is reaching for the stars.

The Journey

Trey grew up in Liberty Township, Ohio, and then, for college, moved a short distance to Oxford, Ohio. Trey wanted to stay local and calls himself a “hometown kid.” Trey loves being able to play close to home, especially after working closely with his father, who was his personal trainer and helped him through the transition from high school to college basketball.

College

After taking his high school, Lakota East, to the Division I championships his senior year, Trey came into Miami ready to play and grow in his skills. Very quickly, Trey was recognized as an important asset to the team. He always goes toward the action and is not afraid to share his desire to w

Through the confidence that Trey brings to the court, he sets an example for the rest of his teammates and has been described as a genuinely fun guy to be around.

Trey continues to prove that he deserves to be here, His game-winning, buzzer-beater shot against WMU contributed to the undefeated regular season.

Getting ready for the NCAA tournament in Dayton, Ohio, Trey is glad that he is playing close to home. He and the rest of the team are looking forward to playing in a space where they can have support from not only Miami fans but also his hometown friends and family.

Beyond

As a freshman, Trey had a lot of opportunities come his way. After being an important asset this season, there’s only more to come, and the RedHawks are excited to cheer him on as he grows and shoots for the stars.
