M.E.E.T. Graduate Student Spotlight: ‘I don’t think I’d get the experience anywhere else except Miami.’

April 10, 2025 | admin

Our world is more complex than ever and requires the ability to think in bold ways to create successful outcomes. With a foundation in entrepreneurial best practices, finance, creativity, and technology expertise, Miami University’s online Master of Entrepreneurship and Emerging Technology (M.E.E.T.) program graduates aim to innovate the future of business.

Here’s a spotlight on Landon Morrison ’24, a graduate student in the M.E.E.T. program, and how he plans to make meaningful contributions in business and technology that will leave a lasting impact.

About the M.E.E.T. Program

“I did my undergrad here at Miami in Emerging Technology in Business and Design. I extended my studies to the master’s program. We’re researching entrepreneurship. We went out to San Francisco to see the Bay Area and the entrepreneurship ecosystem, kind of where tech entrepreneurship was born. Our research is a thesis project of our own emerging technology business. I’ve been brainstorming what kind of business I want to start — how I want to make an impact in technology.”

Graduate School Experience

“My grad school experience has been unique just being here as a four plus one student. I’ve loved it. It’s been great having a mentor and a program administrator that’s been really hands on, and the staff is just great. I don’t think I’d get the experience anywhere else except Miami.”

Special Moments

“What’s special about my program in particular, we got to travel together to San Francisco, and we got to study the entrepreneurship ecosystem out there together. We also got to know each other and bond, while also improving our studies and getting to know our faculty personally.”

Building Community

“I’d say the community is very welcoming, very go with the flow. It’s technology — It’s that new wave of business. So, it’s very casual but also kind of a competitive nature, too. You’re working by yourself and then you present your projects to each other in an online setting, because the program is online, but it’s still welcoming and great.”

Embracing Resources

“The resources here on campus are wonderful. The advisors, the program administrators — They’re always there for any questions. They’re always asking, ‘How do you want to extend your studies within your four years of your undergrad or your grad program?’ There’s always something to make it extended, and it’s not just your coursework.”

Growing as a Leader

“I think Miami really emphasizes getting involved on campus. It’s not just about classwork. It’s really just about you have a community of friends that you might not meet on campus, maybe off campus, but you also have those opportunities to be a leader, be a volunteer, and there’s always people wanting you to be there.”

Providing Advice for Others Considering Miami’s Graduate Programs

“The advice I would give to people looking at Miami grad programs is to 100% apply and go for it. There’s always people looking to help you and answer any questions. Even if it’s an online program or an in-person program, there’s always going to be opportunities to meet your peers and your administrators, and everybody wants you to succeed 100%.”

Post-graduation Plans

“After I graduate from Miami, I plan to look for a job, hopefully in technology or in the nonprofit sector — just kind of improving their emerging technology programs or their user experience and figuring out how to make their technology usable to all people.”

Because of Miami …

“Because of Miami, I’m a more confident person than I was coming in.”
